What to expect
Your first session
A first session is a conversation, not a test. It lasts 50 minutes.
- 01
Before you come
You get my fee in writing and a link to the intake forms on the practice portal. Please keep medical details out of messages sent through this website.
Intake forms on the portal - 02
The first conversation
We talk about what you want from therapy, how you like to work and what feels too early to say. You can decide how much of your story to tell.
- 03
How we would work
I explain how I work: talk-based, one to one, with no worksheets unless you want them. You ask what you like, and then you decide whether to go on.
- 04
Before you leave
We agree on a next step and a time. I answer any questions about fees and cancellation.
Questions
About the first session
01Do I have to talk about my past?
No. You choose what to share and when. Many first sessions are about pace, what helps and what you want from therapy.
02Do I need to prepare anything?
Nothing special. If you like to think in writing, you can bring notes, but there is no homework before we meet.
03Can I come by video?
Yes, if you are in California when we meet. I am licensed here and cannot see clients who are in other states.
